  • A script is being finalized for an “Intro”/explainer video for the homepage of our website. We intend this video to be an aesthetically pleasing and intuitive for the average person, users and speculators alike, to understand what BitBay is all about. While we do have some options lined up right now, feel free to reach out to us if you’re interested in helping! We want this to be done right, with as much input from the community as possible. If there’s something you like about BAY that you feel we aren’t doing a good job emphasizing right now, please let us know.
  • We’re having a raffle! 1,000 BAY will given to the winner, and one entry will be given for every post on our official Bitcointalk thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=890531.0). One entry per post – and also off topic responses WILL NOT be counted so keep it constructive and BAY-related! Winner will be contacted via PM and verified winner will be announced in the General channel of the Slack.
  • Also, if you haven’t checked it out already, we have moved our tutorial videos to the “Tutorials” section of our website under “Support” (http://bitbay.market/video- tutorials/). We also have a new page for you to get acquainted with our team: http://bitbay.market/bitbay-team/. There are a few other changes as well, check it out!
  • To give a summary of recent developments with the coding: David is currently working on the fork (which will raise the staking rate for the next client update) and doing calculations for the peg to determine the most effective method of compressing our metadata. Also in the works: the exotic spend to freeze coins and the ability to burn coins.
As always - thanks for supporting BitBay! Stick around for more updates. BitBay Community Update July 31st

  • Our marketing team has completed their strategy for marketing the future release of the CLTV update. We will spend ample time to market this to various media outlets. As this will be a great milestone for us. BitBay will be the first coin to have checklocktimeverify (CLTV) built into the Client UI - not just some protocol that sits ‘under the hood’.
  • We wish to thank all the community that has taken the time to complete our marketing survey. If you haven’t already please feel free to do so. Remember, we will provide a 2000 Bay reward for the person who provides the best suggestion regarding BitBay’s future marketing and development!
  • The French marketing campaign continues. Our lead marketer, lude, will be speaking  live with the Community "La Baleine"!
    • And thanks to ‘little_round’ for helping him with this campaign!
  • We are please to announce we will be listed on the Chinese BTC100.com exchange! They are currently revamping their website so we will have to wait a couple weeks before the listing will take place.
  • We’ve been listed on Cryptopia exchange as well - https://www.cryptopia.co.nz/
    • After the rolling peg, these exchanges will hopefully be able to see the potential we can provide them as a decentralized hedging tool, and the potential to provide them with leverage(margin) trading as well - which will allow them to bypass the red tape involved with utilizing fiat as a leveraging currency!
  • Our SEO team is making progress. They are busy with our survey, building an SEO ‘turk team’, and pushing to keep our pos. 2 rankings for [bitbay]!
  • Our graphic designer, fridenhood, completed the draft of the first OP infographic revision bounty. We are make some minor alterations and hope to move to the next 2 ASAP. As always - thanks for supporting BitBay!

BitBay Community Update And Performance Upgrade v1.28 – July 17th

by 3r197 on July 17, 2017
1 comments

  • The development team is currently uploading the new build of the Client in  prep to release (version 1.28)! As a precautionary - always backup your private keys before updating your Client!
    • Version 1.28 changelog:
      • Made it possible to manually import and export messages in case of failure of messaging system
      • Added option for donating the profits from a stake
      • Add price tracking for custom contracts set the foundation for tracking in future orders
      • Fixed bug where coinmarketcap is down and causes other threads to check the internet slowing down GUI
      • Various other user friendly changes
      • Sync Mac build in advance to make for faster connection and less bugs while syncing
      • Set to attempt more connection tries in Mac and also allow for staying connected so if a reindex is going on, the user can wait for it
      • Made Wine build so it doesn't allow forceful windows exit corrupting the blockchain on Mac
      • Increased amount of time to connect, allow user to stay connected
      • Added ability to add to config from debug
      • Made breaking for change default less compulsive to reduce transaction costs(up to 10 of each denomination before breaking above that level and 25 inputs max)
      • Requests package SSL dependencies fixed. May eventually update system python to 2.7.13 if problems persists
      • Splash screen repaint which should hopefully solve missing or grey splash on some Linux. And a reminder,if you run the static linux build running the sh file directly, it might not show console window. To see it run the sh file from the console.
      • Cleared forms before loading to prevent data from not loading correctly
      • The new built-in price tracking Custom Contract Template and soon to be released Buy/Sell Anything Template. This price tracking is vital for merchants to keep their merchandise as accurate as possible in real time.
    • We would like to mention a notice to Mac users.
      • We have a new Mac build for people who are brand new to BitBay and don't want to synchronize to the blockchain.
        • If any Mac user who already has a Client running and would rather use this new synchronized build we must remind you of the importance of having backups of both your private keys! Back them up in a location outside of the wineskin app! This link will provide you with the new Mac build that does not require synchronizing the entire blockchain files:
          • Please note that this MacSync build download is over 1 gigabyte in size and loads up a bit slow for that matter, therefore it might be best that we recommend MacSync users to manually update it after we release halo versions 1.29 and 1.3
      • Any existing Mac users that are already synchronized to the blockchain and simply wish to update to the newest version 1.28  you can do so by clicking on the download link for Mac in the website. This new version of Mac gives more time for the users computer to connect to the Bitbay daemon. If the Client doesn't connect within a few minutes it notifies the user and instead of forcing them to exit it allows them to wait more time! This is especially necessary users with older Macs as the wineskin app has the ability to slow processes down similar to how VM’s can slow down program processes.
  • Bounty list updates:
    • Website development continues to make progress with about 50% of the list nearing completion.
    • We’ve recently acquired 2 new graphic designers to prep for completing various bounties like infographics and website updates
    • Exchanges:
      • Blocknet is nearing completion of it’s testnet phase and will be preparing for mainnet release over the next few weeks. As mentioned before BitBay will be included on first round of coin listings in their upcoming Dex (decentralized exchange).
      • We are hosting a bitcoin donation fund to be listed on the Cryptopia exchange. The current amount required to be listed is 1.3 BTC. Anyone willing to help out with the fund can donate to:
  • Our preliminary budget for our new marketing team is complete. The official BitBay Marketing and Development Fund is: bZXmqJqPJ9fyLyCPKAYEaKJqGwBA6jaQHR
    • It can be tracked here: https://chainz.cryptoid.info/bay/address.dws?25748.htm
    • As mentioned above in the version update, we will now have an option to donate stake rewards to the BitBay development fund! We will provide a tutorial for this feature in next week’s community update.
    • The account is currently managed by 2 people who have donated 99% of the funding to the project. As time progresses we will provide options to integrate a multisignature account management system to create a more decentralized environment for the funding and management of the account
  • The development of our two secret summer projects continues. The 1st project nearing completion has just finished the log-in development for users to set up accounts for the website. That might not sound like much to some, but when you take in consideration how the user accounts are managed you are in for a surprise. Hopefully within the next 2 to 3 weeks the core team will begin beta testing the website in preparation for a final release to public.
    • For the record this website will be a completely separate entity from BitBay, yet it will utilize BitBay solely as a means of currency.

BitBay Community Update – Bounty List

by 3r197 on June 30, 2017
0 comments

We are excited to announce that the following aspects of the bounty list have been assigned to the marketing team under the coordination of our Head of Marketing, Toomuchfun. To accept a bounty, simply apply for it. If you feel the price for a bounty should be increased you may also let us know your reason and we could potentially do so if it makes sense. To keep up with the momentum we have steadily been building our marketing team, we have decided the best path forward is for marketing to focus on completing these tasks in the immediate short term:

  • Rewrite Halo documentation
  • Organize and post a treasure hunts
  • Assist in new PR campaign
  • Manage Facebook marketing campaign
  • Manage Reddit marketing campaign
  • Improve “Official” Facebook page
  • YouTube videos about BitBay
  • SEO Bitcointalk Thread and Website
  • Create Signature Artwork
The following bounty tasks are available if anyone would like to put their names forward to contribute:   Graphics Designer
  • Make a GIF of the “software in action” - $50

    • Needs screenshots of markets, list of features with diversity of screenshots compelling marketing and nice animation. Seeing is believing we can use this to post on forums
      • Requirements:
        • Must have a background in graphic design or marketing
        • Consult with Aletha before beginning

  • Make Infographic - $50

    • SYS, Open Bazaar vs Bitbay - Revised. Make people understand there is no comparison. We have 2 party escrow and 100s of features. I don't even think OB has wallet functions. You may have to download the competitions wallet to know how far ahead we are.
    • ETH vs BitBay infographic - Consult with David first so he can make bullet points. The themes are: Our smart contracts apply more to real world situations, ETH is bloatware our stuff is all P2P, we have a user interface and they don't have demo contracts, we have hundreds of features within their wallet yet the mist client is goofy and doesn't let me select text. Do a serious comparison, take notes and report your opinion of differences. ETH has the advantage of being able to issue tokens and do fancy contracts and programmable accounting. A great advantage and although they can do double deposit it required 3 years of work for me to make the user interface, user experience etc and currently we are STILL the only software in the world that does contracting between peers. ETH has a protocol but no UI or demo contracts or way for peers to reach out to each other.
    • Redesign BitcoinTalk OP infographics - Consult with Craig  yet real graphic design
      • Requirements:
        • Must have background in graphic design or marketing
        • Redesign of “About BAY” infographic.
  Testers
  • Client bug bounty – $25

    • Coding bugs only. UI discrepancies do not count
      • Requirements:
        • None - feel free to try out every feature you can. If you find any bugs post them in the #support channel on Slack or on Bitcointalk
        • Make sure you turn ‘on’ your ‘create debug file upon exit’ feature found in your general settings tab
    Public Marketing Bounties:
  • Find a list of PR firms – $10

      • Rank your favorite PR firm first, talk to a few and see their outreach, compare prices and let us know which one you think is the best fit for us to hire. Can we reach a larger audience? Is there a Chinese PR firm?! Bonus if you find one that’s cheap.
        • Requirements:
          • Inquire with Aletha before beginning

  • YouTube videos about BitBay - $0.01 per subscriber

    • Get a youtuber to talk about BitBay and potentially interview a veteran community member or talk about bitbay in general. This is only if they are posting relevant content as a girl who does makeup videos should not be talking about Bitbay. If more than 500 usd in bounties are paid and we don't see effects we might change the bounty reward
    • If the youtube has more than 100,000 subscribers you get a $100 bonus up to 5 of these bounties can be redeemed before a review. If the youtube has a million subscribers or more we don't care if their content is relevant. It could be a hot chick who normally talks about makeup and we will still take it.
      • Requirements:
        • Inquire with Aletha before beginning

  • Placement on new Exchanges campaign – $25 - $1000

    • https://coinmarketcap.com/exchanges/volume/24-hour/  That link sorts exchanges by volume.
    • Although it’s true that the peg will make us obsolete to exchanges that don't want to work with us, we need to tap into the Chinese market and hopefully Polo (take a guess which one we will pay 1000 for). Smaller exchanges with almost no volume will get a lower reward and we will base what we pay entirely on volume. The TOP exchanges get a greater reward. But just because it’s the top doesn't mean it will get the maximum reward. The current budget for this will not exceed $3000 dollars until our core team reviews the effects of the new exchanges. IF there are costs involved approve those with us first and we will decide if to pursue said exchange.
      • Requirements:
        • Inquire with Aletha before beginning
  Video Production
  • Video SEO campaign - $25 per video + costs (max 10 videos)

    • Start grabbing keywords to optimize easy videos. As not only do videos rank on google immediately but they usually rank at the top because google owns youtube. Keywords:"smart contracts" "unbreakable contracts" "decentralized markets" "rolling peg" "bitbay" and maybe run analytics on other keywords. If you want to split the bounty two people can work on this, one to manage SEO keyword research and another to create the videos. If the video is not cool or compelling we reserve the right to reject the attempt to claim this. So talk to core to make sure we like it. The payment of this job may be increased. Might require two people, one with video SEO expertise and one who makes good videos for the keywords.
      • Requirements:
        • Inquire with Aletha before beginning
  Writers
  • “Quality” posts to forums and news articles with good traffic - Price varies based on “quality” of post and location
    • Post to bitcointalk especially in communities we haven't tapped like Chinese OP. Do NOT SPAM the forums, space out your comments. Do things right, trolling will not be paid and no bots or abusing the bounty. In order to get paid submit links to the comments so we can confirm your count. We will give you a bonus for finding a new relevant forum. Do people post to topix? Where do the chinese post? What forums other than bitcointalk garner traffic? Reddit is included here so this bounty applies to reddit. Make sure the posts are quality. Not all slack members will qualify for this bounty as people should want to promote this way anyways because they love the project. So please ask us before you start. However we need to start reaching out more.
    • Commenting on news articles is allowed if its not trolling or obvious marketing of our project and it must be on articles that are actually related to the subject. Contact us for GIFs
      • Requirements:
        • Inquire with Aletha or Craig before beginning or else you will not receive any bounty.
      Translators
  • Translate Bitcointalk OP - $30 per translation

      • Translate to chinese, russian, greek, spanish, dutch, french, arabic, hindi. The site will have a plugin that allows visitors to edit so this can be easily managed from freelancer or upwork.
        • Requirements
          • Inquire with Translator Manager(s) before beginning

  • Manage Chinese and/or Spanish communities - $20 per week per community

    • Our target markets are China and Venezuela cash buyers. Currently both countries have a hard time getting into crypto and our software solves that problems with trustless wires. We can increase payment if you can put in significant hours.
      • Reach out on QQ and make a list of platforms that are used in China or forums they go to in order to talk about crypto.
      • Contact their media outlets and bloggers and vloggers.
      • Should probably speak the language but if we don't have anyone who does then take the bounty and use google translation until someone is found to take your place
        • Requirements
          • Inquire with Aletha before beginning
    Web Designer
  • Web Developer Update website – $1000

    • Contact us for all the details. You may need to take a moment to be familiar with the project.
      • Requirements:
        • Inquire with Aletha and David Zimbeck
We are very fortunate to have such a strong community that it may be the case we have several volunteers working the same tasks. No doubt the marketing team will also end up with additional volunteer tasks to distribute as we start to implement their strategy. So for now, I would invite anyone interested in these tasks to make themselves known. Please be aware the focus is on quality, not quantity, so if you’re struggling for time, please be realistic with what tasks you can manage over a 4-8-week timeframe. Here is an updated list of our current marketing team. I would welcome them to assign themselves for the bounty tasks as well as anyone currently not listed in a specific role who may be interested.

BitBay Community Update

by 3r197 on June 26, 2017
0 comments

We are pleased to announce that we are nearly complete with the preparations for release of David’s bounty list. The delay has been in part due finalizing what tasks are to be performed by our marketing team and what will become available for our ever growing community interest. These bounties require a degree of management and we are excited to officially announce a new team member, Aletha Kellond,  to the BitBay core development team.  She runs her own recruitment firm which makes her highly qualified to fulfill the role as BitBay’s bounty manager. Once we put the finishing touches on the bounty list we will release a new community update ASAP. Also worth mentioning that our marketing team has finalized their new branding guidelines for BitBay! With this complete, we now can begin implementing their marketing strategy through our various core development teams and soon to be released community bounties. David has been busy gearing up for the next release of the Client. He is working diligently to bring these new updates including exotic spend (Checklocktimeverify built-into the Client UI) and a new hard fork to correct the stake reward to the correct block reward value ASAP. We’ve been testing: - a new price tracking feature for the “Custom Contracts” template. This will will also be applied to the Buy/Sell Anything template to be released in the near future. - a new import/export messaging system that allows for manually sending bitmessages to counterparties during “email based” contract negotiation as a failsafe way to continue correspondence. - pursuing some alternative solutions to the timeout/disconnect issues some of our Mac users and VM users are experiencing. We are thankful for everyone downloading the Client and learning all of its features. Other than a few Mac OS and VM Client blockchain sync issues, we’ve noticed that the Client is performing very well in regards to users lack of bugs to report! This might not seem like much to some of you, but you must understand that most coins and tokens are still only boasting about their smart contract technology “roadmaps” that are still nothing but vaporware. Here at BitBay, we have been perfecting an actual working product for over 2 years!

Performance upgrade for BitBay Client Version 1.27

by 3r197 on May 25, 2017
0 comments

We are happy to announce the release of the new version of the BitBay Halo Client. This release mainly focuses on performance upgrades and fine tuning the Client’s many features. It will allow David the ability from here on out to focus solely on coding the final features of the core build. Halo Version 1.27 updates include:

  • Added admin method to build into manifest
  • Made it so pastebin can be updated for existing orders with missing images on resubmit
  • Started to track memory leaks for better performance
  • Checked data type for querying history in case of erroneous data
  • Checked data being returned from Electrum in BitHalo raw tx in case of erroneous data
  • Added splash screen for submitting TX and also added wait function for waiting for download thread to unlock causing false rejections
  • Added splash for image compression during upload
  • Fixed balance issue in multistake on same input
  • Fixed issue where the number of keys connected changes too early
  • Wallet does not unlock for spending unless requested – allowing for wallet to be unlocked for staking only.
  • Added image cache to make software more responsive because png conversion for computers without jpeg driver is slow
  • Added custom video library link per coin
  • Staking is now off by default so users must activate it manually. Since a new user might get confused when funds become unspendable upon deposit
  • Added sh file to build for Linux to (potentially) improve QT performance on some systems
  • Fixed other minor user interface issues
  • Added extra tips for guiding new users
  • We now check for bitmessage timeouts
  • Reindex option added if daemon fails to load
  • Updated reputation system with redundant public key for resubmission to match original sender instead of temporary key
  • Users can now accept a market order with either bitmessage or email even if the original offer prefers email
  • Added more notifications for messages within escrow
  • Generate bitmessage addresses based on rpc password in addition to keys. In this way switching single keys that you load with won't generate a different address. This makes the address harder to figure out by looking at a script which is safer. Also, joint accounts now have a cleaner way of distinguishing their Bitmessage
  • Added foundation for basic market messaging to update orders. Now users can alert of a change in quantity
  • Verifying "market messaging" design needed for upcoming Buy/Sell Anything template auctions and various situations in Barter template
The next update will include all Checklocktimeverify (CLTV) features. This will provide users with a CLTV functioning UI - the first of its kind for cryptocurrencies, and it will include the patch for fixing the POS 3.0 reward output which currently should equal 20.76 Bay per block found! After that David will release the API allowing for 3rd parties to utilize BitBay ‘under the hood’. This will allow for many undisclosed web based services. For example, imagine a website that utilizes BitBay to host a trustless Binary Options platform or a website host similar to localbitcoin.com for BitBay, yet completely trustless! After that he can finally focus solely on the rolling peg protocol! Thanks for your support and community involvement. We are in progress of completing our marketing team and want to thank everyone who has requested an interview. We will provide an update on our progress in the near future! ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Disclaimer & Instructions: The BitBay Client Version 1.27 For Mac -- We wish to spend some time to warn all Mac users that they must take extra precautions with downloading and installing a new version. As Mac users know, the Client currently runs a on a “Wine” version of Windows. Therefore, we recommend you do not overwrite the existing client. If a Mac user has their private keys saved inside the wine app, and then update the Client to 1.27, they will lose all existing files inside. This is why it is imperative that you store your keys in multiple back up locations. You are responsible for your own wallet. In no way shape or form will we provide refunds to those that can’t properly manage their private keys. We have an easy solution for this in future updates along with a solution for this update as well. So please take the time to read through this notice so you are prepared when we release the official update. Make backups of your private keys and make backups of important files such as Contracts.dat, Other.dat and you bitbaydata folder. Here is how to properly update BitBay on Mac:
  • Instead of downloading the new Mac version of Client, download the windows version update at www.davtonia.com/bitbay/bitbayupdatewin.zip
  • Then Mac users will extract the update file called 'BitBayUpdate.exe' to the computer
  • Then run WineSkin inside the app package
  • Select 'Install Software' and click ' Choose Setup Executable ' then choose the BitBayUpdate.exe file
  • After installation is complete do not launch BitBay and close the installer
  • Wine might say that no new executables were found so just ignore that message and exit wine
This will update Halo without overwriting the entire wine app or requiring you to resynchronize the blockchain.
